The best value in this roundup is a white 60cm Bosch at COURTS. It is S$1,199 against an RRP of S$1,899. Harvey Norman listed the same SMS2IVW01P at S$1,699 on 21 September but had dropped it from its site by 25 September, and it was still missing on 16 October, so COURTS is now the big retailer to buy it from. COURTS sells it on an indent basis, meaning it is ordered in rather than held in stock, so expect a longer wait for delivery. For that you get 12 place settings, a 46 dB EcoSilence motor, HygienePlus, a Machine Care cycle, half load, VarioSpeed and Bosch's Home Connect app with remote start, according to COURTS' spec sheet. It measures 600 x 845 x 600mm, is made in Turkey and carries a 2-year warranty. Twelve place settings suits a couple or a family of three; bigger households should look at the 14 and 16-place machines below. COURTS runs two online offers worth trying at checkout: the 50LDA code takes $50 off every $500 of large appliances, and its Scarily Good Deals take $10 off every $100 (capped at $100, first 500 redemptions, 12 October to 1 November). Harvey Norman does list cheaper 60cm models from Brandt ($690) and Elba ($699), but Electrolux is the cheapest 14-place machine here from a major brand. Installation is extra.

Hisense's stainless steel HS673C91XSG takes 16 place settings, two more than most 60cm machines, and adds Wi-Fi control, a Hygiene Wash, an Auto Open door for drying and a 3-level wash. Buying direct gets you Hisense's 3-year onsite warranty, and Harvey Norman lists 36 months too. Hisense's other dishwasher, the HS693B90BSG with UV and auto-dosing, is S$1,649 on Hisense and S$1,576 at Harvey Norman, which is a lot more money for the same 16 places. Installation is extra.

For renters, small HDB kitchens or anyone who cannot run a water pipe, this is the answer. Toshiba's DWS-22ASG(K) sits on the counter and has a 2-way water feed: pour water into its built-in 5L tank, or connect it to the tap if you prefer. It washes at 70°C, runs at 42 dB and measures just 435 x 435 x 420mm. COURTS has it at S$379 against an RRP of S$459 as an Online Exclusive Deal, and Harvey Norman now matches it at S$379. The trade-offs are real: it is sized for a couple's plates and bowls rather than a family's pots, and PUB's water label gives it 2 ticks at 1.2L per place setting, the thirstiest machine here per plate. Toshiba covers it with a 2-year parts and service warranty. COURTS' Scarily Good and GET offers exclude Online Exclusive Deals and its 50LDA code needs a $500 spend, so $379 is the price you pay.

The step up from a countertop mini without going full-size. Toshiba's silver DW-08T1 is a tabletop machine for 8 place settings, with a UV LED sterilizer, an anti-bacterial filter and a 70°C hot water wash. COURTS sells it at S$522 against an RRP of S$609 (Online Exclusive Deal), and Harvey Norman now matches it at S$522. PUB's label gives it 3 ticks at 1L per place setting, and it runs at 49 dB. At 550 x 590 x 500mm it needs a proper stretch of counter and a tap connection, so measure before you order. A COURTS reviewer notes it takes 24cm pans. Toshiba's warranty is 2 years parts and service.

Electrolux's answer to the Toshiba tabletop is 55cm wide and costs less. The EFC3862MS holds 8 place settings and has AutoOpen, which cracks the door at the end of the cycle so dishes dry properly, a rare feature at this price. You also get a 1 to 24-hour delay start and seven programmes including Hygiene and Pre-rinse, at 49 dB. It is S$512 at Harvey Norman (was S$759), S$27 under Electrolux's own store at S$539 (usual S$759), with a 2-year warranty. Choose it over the Toshiba if you want the drying; choose the Toshiba if UV sterilizing matters more. It needs a tap connection and drain like any plumbed machine.

A Japanese-brand 14-place machine, if you can catch it at COURTS. Hitachi's HDF-F146VX has an inverter motor, 6 wash programmes, half load, a Rapid 58-minute cycle and a HygieneCare function, with a cutlery tray plus upper and lower baskets. PUB's label gives it 3 ticks, using 9.5L a cycle. COURTS lists it at S$899 (RRP S$1,399), but showed it Out of Stock online on 16 October. Harvey Norman, which matched S$899 in September, is back to the full S$1,399, so check COURTS before paying $500 more. COURTS lists the warranty as first year parts and labour, which is shorter than Electrolux and Hisense offer, so weigh that against the inverter motor. The glass-black HDF-F158CVGB, S$999 in September, is now S$2,099 at Harvey Norman.

Harvey Norman sells it at S$1,899 (was S$1,999). Samsung's own store lists S$1,998.99 but showed it out of stock on 16 October, so Harvey Norman is where to buy it. It is made in Thailand and measures 598 x 845 x 600mm. Pick it over the LG if low water use and noise matter more than LG's free tablets.
