Penang Place has swapped its buffet line onto an "Aug Special" menu from 31 July to 30 August 2026, and the change worth crossing town for is printed in the middle of its own artwork: free-flow chilli crabs.

The price, and why $5.99 is the number that matters
Penang Place's August tiers, straight off its menu poster:

Now hold those against the restaurant's standing buffet prices, still listed on its own site: $36.90++ on weekdays and $39.90++ on weekends and public holidays, adult.
The gap is exactly $5.99++ a head — on both tiers. Seniors pay $4.79++ more, children about $3. That is what unlimited chilli crab costs here, and it's the cleanest way to judge the deal: this isn't a premium crab buffet, it's the regular Penang Place buffet with an unlimited crab tray added for the price of a kopitiam lunch.
For context, free-flow crab in Singapore is normally hotel territory — the going rate for an all-you-can-eat crab spread sits somewhere between $70++ and $120++ a head. Penang Place lands at less than half that.
What it actually costs, nett
Prices are before 10% service charge and 9% GST, which together multiply the menu price by 1.199:
- Weekday adult: $42.89++ → about $51.43 nett
- Weekend/PH adult: $45.89++ → about $55.02 nett
- Weekday senior: about $41.14; child about $25.78
- Weekend senior: about $44.02; child about $27.52
What else is on the line
It's a full Penang spread, not crab plus filler. Off the official menu:
- Penang local favourites — char kway teow, assam laksa, Hokkien mee (soup)
- Meat dishes — beef rendang, chicken curry, salted egg fried chicken, fried prawn paste chicken, gulai ikan pari, lobak, chicken satay, prawn rolls
- Sides — choon piah, vegetarian pau, kueh pie tee, Penang fruits rojak, nyonya chap chye, jiu hu eng chai
- Rice & condiments — fried rice, nasi lemak rice, mantou (there for the crab sauce — don't miss it), ikan bilis & peanuts, nyonya acar, century egg
- Kid's Corner — chicken nuggets, chicken karaage, French fries
- Desserts — chendol, ice kachang, a rotating hot dessert (pulut hitam / bubur cha cha / red bean with longan), assorted kueh kuehs, fresh fruits, gui ling gao with honey, goreng pisang, and ice cream in vanilla, chocolate, coconut, cookies & cream and durian
The fine print
- One outlet only — Suntec City Mall Atrium #02-314/315/316, S039593, above H&M and Uniqlo, to the right of Din Tai Fung. Nearest MRT: Esplanade Exit A; nearest carpark: Convention Centre B1 Lobby C, Green zone.
- Sessions: lunch 11.30am–3pm, dinner 6pm–10pm.
- Prices exclude 10% service charge and 9% GST.
- Weekend reservations are held 15 minutes past your slot, then released to walk-ins.
- Above 30 pax or a VIP room → email catering@penangplace.com (VIP room minimum: 8 buffets).
- Penang Place describes its kitchen as using no pork and no lard; it makes no halal-certification claim, so ask directly if that matters to you.
Tips
- Go at 11.30am or 6pm. This is a self-service buffet, so crab replenishment runs on the kitchen's clock, not yours. The start of a session is the reliable slot; the last hour is a gamble.
- Friday lunch is a loophole. Friday *lunch* is priced on the Mon–Fri tier at $42.89++; Friday *dinner* jumps to $45.89++.
- National Day (Sun 9 Aug) and the holiday in lieu (Mon 10 Aug) both fall inside the run, but both price at the higher tier — go on a weekday if the $3 matters.
- Take mantou with the crab. It's on the rice-and-condiments row and it's the reason the sauce is worth going back for.
