Pick Astons if the steak itself is the point. One correction worth making, because it is often repeated: the two chains are now about the same size. COLLIN'S lists 11 restaurants on its own site (Marina Square, Northpoint City, Westgate, Paya Lebar Quarter, NEX, Sengkang Grand Mall, Shaw Plaza, The Woodleigh Mall, Mandai Wildlife West, VivoCity and Tampines 1), with its 14 Common Grill coffeeshop locations counted separately, while ASTONS Specialities lists 10 (Wilkie Edge, Punggol Coast Mall, Bugis+, Suntec City, Kallang Wave Mall, SingPost Centre, The Central, Thomson Plaza, VivoCity and Westgate) plus ASTONS Steak & Salad at Marina Square and City Square Mall. Rule of thumb: weekday lunch or tea-time, go Collin's, because the promos make it the cheaper meal. Any other time, or if you just want a straightforward steak, Astons wins on price.
Every chain above sits in a mall. The other half of Singapore's Western food scene is the coffeeshop stall: same chicken chop, same grilled steak with two sides, ordered at a counter instead of a table, and usually a few dollars cheaper because there's no service charge on top.
The one people ask about most is iCON STEAK, at the Meet & Eat coffeeshop, Blk 608 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5, #01-2771, open daily 10.30am–11.30pm. It's run by two brothers who cooked in Western and Chinese restaurants before starting their own stall, and the draw is the range: around 70 mains and 10 sides. When we checked its published prices, mains started at $7.50 (truffle ham and mushroom baked rice), with an Australian wagyu beef patty at $8.90, English beef stew at $9.90, a prime New Zealand sirloin at $14.50 and an Australian Angus flank steak at $15.90, steak-house cuts at roughly half a mall chain's price. Prices at stalls like this move more often than chain menus, so treat these as a guide and check at the counter, and note that delivery-app prices sit above counter prices.

One thing worth clearing up, because people search for it: there is no iCON STEAK in Woodlands. The northernmost stall is the Yishun one on Yishun Ring Road. If you are in Woodlands and want a sit-down Western meal, Jack's Place at Woodlands Civic Centre is the nearest chain option on this list.

Jack's Place runs its Happy Hour 1-for-1 on selected main courses (plus gourmet coffee) every weekday from 2:30pm–5pm, dine-in only, but on its own outlet-by-outlet promotions listing the deal appears at just three of its 13 branches: Bras Basah Complex, SAFRA Punggol and SAFRA Jurong. Eligible mains have included Battered Fish & Chicken Steak, BBQ Chicken Steak with Pineapple, Classic Beef Bolognese and New England's Fish & Chips. Collin's runs a 1-for-1 Tea Time on selected mains and pizzas from Monday to Friday, 3pm–5pm, and its own poster says selected restaurants only. Fish & Co's 1-for-1 à la carte main course is not open to everyone: it is a PAssion Silver member benefit, Monday to Wednesday 11.30am–6pm, with the free item of equal or lesser value. Seniors have a fourth: Swensen's gives diners aged 60 and above 1-for-1 mains or sundaes, Monday to Friday 2.30pm–4.30pm, dine-in. Terms, participating outlets and timings change, so confirm on the brand's official site before heading down.
The cheapest dine-in meal that anyone can order is Fish & Co's Value Lunch, more than 20 choices from $10.95 with a free soft drink, dine-in Monday to Friday until 5pm. Collin's $6.10 Common Grill chicken chop, which held this spot over July and August 2026, ended on 31 August; Common Grill's promotions page now carries a $9.90 Mega Lunch with a free Wild Mushroom Soup (Mon–Fri 11am–3pm), with no outlet restriction printed on the poster, so confirm at your stall. If you're a student or NSF you can do better: five COLLIN'S restaurants serve an $8.80 student meal with a free soup or soft drink every day (about $10.55 after service charge and GST), Common Grill's own $8.80 Student Meal runs at Hillion Mall only, Eighteen Chefs does a Be Your Own Chef meal from $8.80 or a bundle meal from $8.90 nett on weekdays 2pm–5pm with a student pass or 11B, and Fish & Co's student set is $12.95 nett with free-flow soft drinks all day (ages 13 to 26). Jack's Place has cut its Student Set Meal to $8 nett (Mon–Fri 11am–5pm), Astons gives students $2 off any main with a free soft drink (Mon–Fri 3–5pm), and Astons and Botak Jones keep à la carte mains in the roughly $8–18 range. Cheaper again if you leave the malls: coffeeshop Western stalls such as iCON STEAK, now at four stalls in Ang Mo Kio, Tampines and Yishun, list mains from about $7.50 with no service charge on top. Weekday lunch and mid-afternoon are almost always cheaper than dinner across every chain.
Most of the chains on this list are NOT halal-certified. Collin's, Jack's Place, Fish & Co, Morganfield's and Swensen's serve pork and/or alcohol. Astons and Eighteen Chefs have some outlets that are halal-certified and others that are not, so it varies by branch. Muslim diners should always check the specific outlet's MUIS halal certification directly (on the MUIS list or with the restaurant) before dining, as certification status differs by location and can change. This guide focuses on value, menu and current promos rather than dietary certification.
Both are home-grown Singapore casual-Western chains built around grilled steaks and chicken chop with sides, and both are great value. Astons (since 2005) leans more towards the classic no-frills grilled-to-order steak-and-two-sides formula at everyday prices. Collin's (since 2016) positions slightly more premium, with grain-fed steaks, a wider pasta and seafood range, mocktails and a more café-like fit-out. On size they are now close to level, which is worth saying because 'Collin's is everywhere' is a claim that has outlived the facts: COLLIN'S lists 11 restaurants on its own site (its Common Grill coffeeshop stalls are a separate format and counted separately), while ASTONS Specialities lists 10 plus two ASTONS Steak & Salad branches. Neither is guaranteed to be in the mall you're already in. Where Collin's is genuinely ahead is promotions: a 1-for-1 Tea Time, a Buy One Free One lunch deal from $15, and an $8.80 student meal every day at five of its restaurants. Astons' counter-punch is the student hour ($2 off any main with a free soft drink, Mon–Fri 3–5pm), a $5.90 Birthday Treat set meal through the Great Eastern Rewards app, and, at Steak & Salad, free-flow Supreme Salad Buffet with mains from $16.90 at weekday lunch. If you want the cheapest reliable steak, Astons; if you want a slightly more polished meal and more deals, Collin's.
Not any more. Swensen's SG61 local-flavour menu (Singapore Laksa Pizza and Jumbo Blue Prawn Hokkien Mee at $18.61, a $61 Family Set for three) was announced to run to 9 September 2026, and by 10 September Swensen's had taken it off both its promotions page and its homepage. The old menu page still loads but is no longer linked, so ask in store before making a trip for it. Jack's Place's 'A Taste of Singapore' heritage menu ran through July and August 2026 and has ended; its September and October slot now belongs to a Striploin & Ribeye Fest. Botak Jones' $6.10 Lite Eater chicken sets were a one-day offer tied to National Day itself, 9 August, and have ended; its regular Lite Eater sets are still the cheapest way into the menu.
Ang Mo Kio has both formats, plus one catch worth knowing. For a sit-down chain meal, Jack's Place lists an Ang Mo Kio outlet among its 13 branches, and chain-wide it runs an $8 nett Student Set Meal (Mon–Fri 11am–5pm), a $3++ weekday Kids' Menu and Set Lunch Daily Specials. The Happy Hour 1-for-1, however, is not one of them: on Jack's Place's own outlet listing the Ang Mo Kio branch does not carry it, and the deal shows up only at Bras Basah Complex, SAFRA Punggol and SAFRA Jurong. Fish & Co also has an Ang Mo Kio outlet, at AMK Hub (53 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3), but its own terms exclude AMK Hub from the $10.95 Value Lunch, and the branch runs its own exclusive menu instead; the all-day $12.95 nett student set and the weekday takeaway discounts are not restricted the same way. For the cheaper coffeeshop version, iCON STEAK at the Meet & Eat coffeeshop, Blk 608 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 #01-2771, is open daily 10.30am–11.30pm with around 70 mains; published prices start at $7.50, with a New Zealand sirloin at $14.50 and an Angus flank steak at $15.90, and no service charge on top. Its second Ang Mo Kio stall is at Blk 505 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8, #01-01. Collin's coffeeshop brand Common Grill also has a stall at Blk 107 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4, #01-164 (daily 11am–10pm). Its $6.10 chicken chop ended on 31 August 2026 and its $8.80 Student Meal is a Hillion Mall exclusive, so the deal to ask about there is the $9.90 Mega Lunch (Mon–Fri 11am–3pm).
