Guardian is running its Holland & Barrett campaign on a single line of copy: Mix & Match 3 for 2, 27 August to 30 September 2026, stamped *guardian EXCLUSIVE*, with *while stocks last, T&Cs apply* along the bottom. Holland & Barrett has no shops of its own in Singapore, so Guardian is where the brand is sold here.
That banner is also the only place Guardian prints the dates. Everything else about how the offer pays is somewhere else, so we put it through Guardian's own cart on Sunday 20 September 2026 and watched the totals.

The rule, in Guardian's own words
Guardian's Promotion FAQs page is where the mechanic lives, and it is blunt:
- Buy three products for the price of two, based on the original retail selling price
- You need three or more qualifying products in the cart before the discount applies
- The lowest value item in the offer will not be chargeable
- Deals are not stackable and cannot be used with another promotion once the cart qualifies for the 3 for 2
So the free item is not the one you pick, and it is not valued at whatever it is marked down to. It is the cheapest of your three, at full shelf price.
What the cart actually did
Every row below is Guardian's own cart on 20 September 2026, goods only, with delivery handled separately further down.

The mechanic pays exactly as written, every time. Two items in the cart pay nothing at all, which we also checked.
The number that decides how good this is
Because the free item is the cheapest of your three, your saving is capped by your cheapest line, not your dearest. That turns the 3 for 2 into a basket-building problem rather than a discount.
- Three items at $101.90, $99.90 and $89.90: $89.90 off $291.70, which is 30.8%
- Three items at $13.90 each: $13.90 off $41.70, a clean 33.3% but only $13.90 in your pocket
- A $101.90 tub with two $13.90 bottles: $13.90 off $129.70, which is 10.7%
The last one is the mistake to avoid. Dropping a cheap line into the basket to reach three does not top the offer up, it caps it.
The mix is not limited to Holland & Barrett
This is the part the brand-stamped banner hides. The promotion behind it is Guardian's site-wide 3 For 2 Mix & Match, and Guardian's own catalogue puts 2,121 products in that pool. Bionike, Comvita, GO Healthy, Thomson and Ocean Health all carry the same label.
We proved it with an odd basket on 20 September: two Bionike Defence My Age Gold creams at $239.00 each plus one Holland & Barrett Magnesium Citrate at $27.90. The promotion fired, and the goods came to $478.00 instead of $505.90. It also demonstrated the cap perfectly, because that $505.90 basket saved only $27.90, or 5.5%.
The dearest lines we found anywhere in the pool were those two Bionike creams at $239.00. Three items at that level would take $239.00 off.
The 14 lines that are not in it, and why most are better
Guardian listed 63 Holland & Barrett products on 20 September, of which 57 were in stock and 43 carried the 3 For 2 label, priced from $13.90 to $101.90. The other 14 sit outside it:
Seven snack lines on Buy 1 Get 1, which is half off a pair against a third off three. Apple Chips 20g, Pineapple Chips 18g, Watermelon Chips 18g and Mushroom Chips 10g at $3.90, and Strawberry & Peach, Banana & Blueberry and Raspberry & Apple Fruitfetti 30g at $7.90. Two Apple Chips came to $3.90 in our cart, so the second really is free.
Six supplements on 2nd Buy at $0.10. Two Cholestaguard Plant Sterols at $64.90 rang up at $65.00 together, so the second cost ten cents. The rest were UC-II Collagen Orange Powder $65.90, Milk Thistle 100mg $33.50, Lactase Enzyme 125mg $30.90, Kids Lutein Gummies $21.90 and High Strength Vitamin C & Zinc Effervescent $12.90. One caveat: Guardian's own skinny banner dates this run 17 to 20 September, so check the label is still on the listing before you plan around it.
One straight markdown. Beauty Superfood Blend 150g is cut from $49.90 to $28.35 on its own, 43% off, with no 3 for 2 attached.
Five lines carry both a markdown and the 3 for 2, and you get the better one
Five in-stock lines show a Price Off price and the 3 For 2 Mix & Match label at the same time, and Guardian's FAQs say the two do not stack. We put the three dearest of them in one cart to see which won: Marine Collagen with Vitamin C ($85.90, marked $60.10), Tribiotics Women's Intimate Health ($79.90, marked $55.90) and Ashwagandha KSM-66 600mg ($63.80, marked $44.65).
The cart listed them at their original prices, subtotal $229.60, and charged $160.65. That is the three marked-down prices added up. Under the 3 for 2 the same basket would have been $165.80, so the markdown won by $5.15 and Guardian applied it for us. The lesson is not to work the 3 for 2 out by hand on already-reduced lines. Put them in the cart and read the total.
The other two on that footing are Timed Release Vitamin C 1000mg 120 Caplets ($49.90 to $34.90) and Friendly Bacteria & ACV 30 Gummies ($42.90 to $30.00).
Six lines are out of stock
Including, awkwardly, the Holland & Barrett Tote Bag gift. The others are Bovine Collagen Strawberry 60 Gummies $56.70, Night-Time Formula 60 Tablets $49.30, Expert Calm Daily Support Saffron 30 Capsules $63.50, High Strength Glucosamine & Chondroitin $88.90 and Expert Triple Action Biotic Gut Formula $90.70. If you had the last one down as the third leg of a big basket, it is not available.
Delivery, and the fee that quietly eats a small basket
Guardian's cart offered three routes on 20 September:
- Home Delivery: $8, and it did not fall away on a $299.70 order in our test
- Click & Collect: $5
- Express Click & Collect: $0, advertised on Guardian's own site as collect in one hour
On the three-bottle Baby & Toddler basket, the 3 for 2 saves $13.90 and Home Delivery takes $8 of it back, leaving $5.90. Express Click & Collect keeps the lot. The trade-off is in Guardian's FAQs: free gifts do not apply to Express Click & Collect orders, so if you are chasing a campaign gift, that route costs you the gift.
How to play it
- Pick three you would buy anyway, and get them as close in price as you can. The cheapest one is the one you stop paying for.
- Check the label before you assume. If a line says Buy 1 Get 1 or 2nd Buy at $0.10, buy it in twos, not threes.
- Do not hand-calculate a marked-down line. Put it in the cart and let Guardian pick the better of the markdown and the 3 for 2.
- Choose Express Click & Collect unless a free gift is riding on the order.
- Go before 30 September. After that the banner and its dates are gone.
