Palate Sensations: Best All-Round School, Classes From $148 at Biopolis

Running since 2005, Palate Sensations has the deepest timetable in Singapore: 214 dated sessions from mid-September to December 2026, from 9.30am to 9pm, taught by professional chefs in a 2,000 sq ft studio kitted out with Fotile appliances. Most hands-on adult classes are $148 or $168 nett for 3-4 hours (Hainanese Chicken Rice & Roast Pork Belly is $168, Peranakan Otak Otak & Bak Steak $188), with a $100 dining-etiquette evening at the low end and premium one-offs up to $380. Parent-and-child classes (ages 7-12, 2 hours) are $90 per child, so a parent plus child is two sign-ups. Serious learners can take the 8-session Chef in Training series ($1,400-$1,600 for the full course); these carry NTUC UTAP funding (50% back, capped at $250 or $500 if you are 40+, until 31 Mar 2027), but the school says its listed hobby classes are not SkillsFuture claimable. Classes need at least 4 participants and bookings close 48 hours ahead. Address: Chromos #01-03, 10 Biopolis Road, Singapore 138670, opposite Buona Vista MRT.

Discounted gift vouchers (valid 1 year, one voucher code per booking): $300 voucher for $270, $500 for $450, $1,000 for $900 and $1,500 for $1,275, which is 15% off.

Pots & Pans Culinary Studio: $33 Three-Hour Trial Class at The Centrepoint

The cheapest proper way in. Pots & Pans, run by SkillsFuture-registered provider Hustle Academy, sells a 3-hour hands-on trial class for $33 (apron and ingredients included, taught in English, 10am-1pm or 2pm-5pm), with a fresh set of dishes each month. September's trials are Char Kway Teow (16 Sep) and Pandan Chicken (17 Sep), and a seasonal Salted Egg Mooncake workshop on 22 Sep is $88 (register-of-interest form, so a sign-up is not a confirmed slot). Non-alumni can take a trial only once. After that, the studio's SkillsFuture courses are where it shines: fees include 9% GST and are listed for three groups. Plant-Based Delights (16 hours) is $697.60 full, $377.60 for Singaporeans under 40 and PRs, and $249.60 for Singaporeans 40 and above; the 24-hour French Cuisine, Thai and Healthier Hawker courses top out at $1,308 full, $708 and $468. Zi Char, Dim Sum, Korean, Bento and Peranakan courses sit in between. A $30 refundable deposit holds a seat; SkillsFuture Credit and UTAP can be used. Two learners share a station, up to 24 per class, and the studio is not halal-certified. Address: The Centrepoint, 176 Orchard Road, #B1-12. Open daily 9am-6pm.

ABC Cooking Studio: Japanese Bread, Cake and Wagashi, Trial From $50 at Scotts Square

The Japanese chain now runs a single, newly opened studio at Scotts Square (6 Scotts Road, #02-04/05/06), which held its grand opening on 1-2 August 2026 alongside renewed bread and cake courses. It teaches in small groups on a membership model, with courses in bread, cake, Japanese home cooking, kids' cooking and wagashi. Non-members can test it with a 2-hour trial lesson: $50 Monday to Friday, $65 on weekends, or $40 on a member's referral. Sessions start at 10.30am, 1.30pm, 4.30pm and 7.30pm. September's seasonal trial (2 Sep-1 Oct) is G'day Bites, a Genoise sponge with Bonne Maman raspberry preserve, chocolate and coconut; the regular trials are Nikujaga, a Nutty Maple Blossom coffee bread and a Rich Gateau Chocolat. Cake and bread trials are packed for takeaway, but cooking-trial dishes must be eaten in the studio. Aprons are compulsory ($2 disposable or $15 ABC apron if you forget yours), and anyone more than 5 minutes late forfeits the lesson with no refund or reschedule.

September Sign Up Campaign: new members get a free Starter Kit with any course purchase. A referred new member who spends S$1,000 or more gets 1 free Lesson Ticket (credited by end-October after a first booking in September or October), and the referring member also gets 1 free ticket. While gifts last.

How we checked

Every price, date and rule above was read off each school's own website, booking system or store on 14 September 2026. Baker's Brew Studio, long a fixture of these lists, is not included: its website is disabled, and news reports on 12 September 2026 said the business stopped trading on 1 June 2026 and entered creditors' voluntary liquidation.

How to choose

  • Just want to try it: Pots & Pans' $33 trial, or ABC Cooking Studio's $50 weekday trial if you prefer Japanese bread and cakes.
  • A fun date or friends' outing: Palate Sensations, which has the most dated classes, from $148.
  • Spend SkillsFuture Credit: Gra Baking Academy for WSQ baking, Pots & Pans for cooking, Creative Culinaire for 2-day bread and gelato courses.
  • Get serious about sourdough: Bespoke Bread, with lifetime access to tutorial videos.
  • Visitors or local-food lovers: Food Playground in Chinatown or Cookery Magic in Siglap.

Before you pay

  • Check the minimum class size. Palate Sensations needs 4 participants and Food Playground needs 2, so a class can be cancelled or you may be paired with strangers.
  • Read the refund rules. Bespoke Bread bookings are non-refundable, and ABC Cooking Studio forfeits your lesson if you are more than 5 minutes late.
  • Check what the price includes. Pots & Pans' SkillsFuture fees include GST, Palate Sensations and Food Playground quote nett, and Cookery Magic adds a 4.9% online booking fee.
  • Per child or per family? Palate Sensations' $90 parent-and-child price is per child, and each adult books a separate place.
