Lunar 7th Month 2026 Singapore (13 Aug–10 Sep) Has Ended: 2027 Dates (2–31 Aug) and What Each Caterer Still Sells

The 2026 Lunar 7th Month (Hungry Ghost Festival, 中元节) ran from 13 August to 10 September, with Zhong Yuan Jie on 27 August, and the caterers' 7th-month menus have now closed. Next year the month runs from Monday 2 August to Tuesday 31 August 2027, with Zhong Yuan Jie on Monday 16 August 2027. We re-checked every caterer on 11 September 2026: Select Catering's 7th-month page now reads "closed for orders", Neo Garden's order system has dropped its 7th Lunar Month menu, and RichFood and FattyDaddyFattyMummy stop taking 7th-month orders on 11 September. For an ancestral prayer or family dinner from here on, the regular menus are the ones to order: FattyDaddyFattyMummy's year-round 10-pax Mini Buffet Set D is $16.14/pax, less than the $19.79 its 7th-month menu charged; Select Catering is waiving delivery on buffet orders for events from 11 September to 31 October; and RichFood, JCatering and Neo Garden all take mini buffets from 10 pax. FoodLine lets you compare hundreds of caterers in one place.

Neo Garden Catering: the 2026 7th Month Range Has Closed, but Its Year-Round Mini Buffets Start at 10 Pax (Halal Available)

Neo Group's flagship caterer was the most complete one-stop for the 2026 7th month, and its season is over: the 7th Lunar Month Menu took orders from 13 August to 10 September 2026 and is no longer on the order system at order.neogarden.com.sg, which now lists only its regular menus. WHAT YOU CAN ORDER NOW: for an ancestral prayer or a small family dinner, the year-round Mini Buffet C is $24.99/pax ($27.24 w/GST, 9 courses) from 10 pax, with Mini Buffet B at $21.99 (from 15 pax) and Mini Buffet A at $19.99 (from 20 pax), each delivered in microwavable containers with two self-heating packs. Its regular Singapore's Favourite Buffet is pitched at 30 guests and up, across 10 menus. That is dearer per head than the other small-order options in this guide, so Neo Garden's case is now the halal menu and the one-order range rather than the price. WHAT THE 2026 RANGE COST, as a guide for 2027: Lucky Sets (福运配套) of Three Treasure Seafood at $81.88 ($89.25 w/GST) and Five Treasure Seafood at $158.88 ($173.18 w/GST); Huat Fruit Towers from $88.88 to $238.88; buffets of Harmony at $16.88/pax (min 60), Abundance at $19.88 (min 30) and Prosperity at $22.88 (min 30); festive bentos at $11.50 a set (min 20 sets); and dry-ration prayer packages from $15.88 to $51.88 a set. The 2026 terms are worth budgeting for again: a $1/pax surcharge on the peak days (20, 21 and 27 August in 2026, the last being Zhong Yuan Jie), offering-set delivery only on a $350 spend across at least 4 items ($100 minimum for self-collection), $45 delivery, and orders finalised 3 working days ahead. The ngl.sg/7thMonth shortlink from the start of the 2026 season still returns a 404. Halal orders are prepared by Neo Garden Catering; non-halal by sister brand Liang Yuan. BEST FOR: a halal-friendly caterer that sells offerings, fruit towers and a buffet on one order, once the 2027 menu opens.

Select Catering: 7th Month Menu Closed; Year-Round Buffets From $14.80+/pax, With Free Delivery to 31 Oct

Part of the long-running Select Group, Select Catering had the cheapest 7th-month buffet in our 2026 guide, and its season page now reads "The menu is now closed for orders" (it covered event dates from 13 August to 10 September 2026). The good news is how little its regular menu costs by comparison. The year-round Asian Favourites Buffet (7+1 courses) is $14.80+/pax ($16.13 w/GST), just 30 cents above the $14.50+ Signature Saver A that led its 7th-month menu, followed by a Vegetarian Buffet at $15+ ($16.35 w/GST), Flavour Harmony at $16.80+, a Teochew Porridge Buffet at $18+ and Treasured Flavours at $18.80+, all from 30 pax with warmers set up. For smaller groups its mini buffets, now in self-heating boxes, start at $15.80+/pax ($17.22 w/GST) for Asian Favourites from 15 pax, with a vegetarian mini buffet at $18.50+. NEW THIS WEEK: FREE DELIVERY ON BUFFET ORDERS FOR EVENTS FROM 11 SEPTEMBER TO 31 OCTOBER 2026, on a minimum spend of $280 for mini buffets or $500 for full buffets. Order online and write "Redeem free delivery for mini buffet" (or full buffet) in the order notes; the fee is refunded after the event, which takes at least two weeks. Full-buffet delivery normally costs $70+ ($80+ for CBD postcodes), so it is a real saving, but a 30-pax Asian Favourites order comes to about $444 before GST, so you need a few more heads or a higher tier to reach $500. What went with the season: the prayer platters ($70+, $130+, $190+), the $88+ and $108+ fruit towers and the single roast items were on the 7th-month page only. BEST FOR: the lowest per-pax price on a 30-pax buffet all year, and free delivery until the end of October.

Free delivery on buffet orders for events 11 Sep–31 Oct 2026: min spend $280 on mini buffets or $500 on full buffets, online orders only; remark "Redeem free delivery for [mini buffet/full buffet]" in the order notes, and the fee is refunded after the event (allow 2 weeks). Year-round buffets from $14.80+/pax (min 30), mini buffets from $15.80+ (min 15).

RichFood Catering: 7th Month Menus End 11 Sep; Year-Round Mini Buffet From 10 Pax at $17.90/pax

RichFood (RichFood Group) opened earliest in our 2026 guide, on 11 August, and its 7th Lunar Month menus run to 11 September 2026, the day of this update, so they are over for any practical purpose: its standard terms need written confirmation at least five working days before the event. For budgeting next year, the 2026 menus were Buffet Menu A at $18.90/pax ($20.60 w/GST) and Menu B at $21.90 ($23.87 w/GST), both from 30 pax, plus 7th Lunar Month Mix Platters of roast chicken, duck and pork (Platter A, $118) or steamed crab, roast duck and sea bass (Platter B, $228), the roast-meat-and-seafood combination families put on the altar. YEAR-ROUND, RichFood is the value pick for a big group and one of the few that goes down to 10: the Value Buffet (5 courses + 1 drink) is $12.90/pax ($14.06 w/GST) from 50 pax, the Basic Buffet $16.90 from 40, and the Petite Oriental Mini Buffet (7 courses) is $17.90/pax ($19.51 w/GST) from just 10 pax. Delivery is $40 ($43.60 w/GST) for mini buffets and bentos and $80 ($87.20 w/GST) for buffet set-ups, free from $1,000 before GST (except the CNY menu); food ready before 8.30am adds $60, and venues without lift access pay a $50 to $200 surcharge. BEST FOR: a 50-pax prayer dinner at the lowest per-head price here, or a 10-pax home spread at about $195 with GST.

FattyDaddyFattyMummy:

FattyDaddyFattyMummy: 7th Month Menus End 11 Sep, and Its Year-Round 10-Pax Mini Buffet Is Cheaper at $16.14/pax

The surprise of this re-check. FattyDaddyFattyMummy's four 7th Month menus are labelled "13 Aug to 11 Sep Only" and end on the day of this update, but its regular menus undercut them. The 7th-month Mini Buffet B for 10 pax cost $19.79/pax; the year-round Mini Buffet Set D, also from 10 pax, is $16.14/pax (listed down from $18.99), about $161 for ten. The regular mini buffets get cheaper as the group grows: Set C for 15 pax is $14.44, Set B for 20 pax $13.59 and Set A for 25 pax $12.74. For a bigger gathering, Regular Set Up Buffet A serves 50 pax at $14.39/pax (down from $15.99) with warmers and tables, against $17.99 for the 7th-month Set Up Buffet A at the same size. Mini buffets are drop-off only: cutlery included, no warmers or tables. Outside the festive season mini-buffet delivery is $30 before GST, and there is no delivery to Sentosa, hotels, shopping malls or Jurong Island. For reference, the 2026 7th-month menus ran Mini Buffet A $17.09/pax (20 pax), Mini Buffet B $19.79 (10), Set Up Buffet A $17.99 (50) and Set Up Buffet B $20.69 (30), after a 15% early bird that closed on 15 August. BEST FOR: the cheapest 10-pax spread in this guide, and a 20-pax spread under $14/pax.

Regular menus listed below their usual price: Mini Buffet Set D $16.14/pax for 10 pax (was $18.99), Set B $13.59/pax for 20 pax (was $15.99), Regular Set Up Buffet A $14.39/pax for 50 pax (was $15.99). Mini-buffet delivery $30 before GST; none to Sentosa, hotels, malls or Jurong Island.

JCatering:

JCatering: Year-Round Mini Buffets From 10 Pax at $19.54/pax, With No GST Added

A tingkat and mini-buffet specialist, JCatering never ran a separate 7th-month menu: the mini buffets we listed for home prayers are its standard ones, still on sale at the same prices after the season. There are two home-style Chinese packages priced on a sliding scale by headcount: the Classic Mini Buffet is $19.54/pax at 10 pax, $17.84 at 15 and $16.99 at 20, and the All-Time Favourite Mini Buffet is $22.94/pax at 10, $21.24 at 15 and $19.54 at 20. The per-pax rate drops as you add people, so if your family is close to the next tier, count again before you book. At exactly 10 pax the Classic comes to about $195, level with RichFood's Petite Oriental once GST is added and dearer than FattyDaddyFattyMummy's $16.14 Set D, but JCatering quotes its mini buffets with no GST added, so the headline is what you pay. It also sells a Quick Bento at $7.90 and an Executive Bento at $14.90 a set, and its tingkat runs a 5-day trial from $85. During the 7th month it asked for 5 to 7 working days' notice, and a date is held only once payment is received. Check jcatering.com.sg, WhatsApp 8995 5786 or email jcateringsg@gmail.com (office hours Mon–Fri, 8.30am–5.30pm). BEST FOR: a small home prayer with a price that does not grow at checkout.

7th Lunar Month dates for 2026 and 2027

2026 (now over):

  • First day (初一): Thursday 13 August 2026. By tradition the gates of the underworld open.
  • Zhong Yuan Jie (中元节), the 15th day: Thursday 27 August 2026. The main day for prayers and offerings, and the busiest day for caterers.
  • Last day (廿九): Thursday 10 September 2026. The month closed.

2027 (next):

  • First day (初一): Monday 2 August 2027.
  • Zhong Yuan Jie, the 15th day: Monday 16 August 2027.
  • Last day (三十): Tuesday 31 August 2027. A 30-day month this time, one day longer than 2026's.

The dates come from the Hong Kong Observatory's Gregorian-lunar calendar tables.

How to choose now

  • A 10-pax home prayer or family meal: FattyDaddyFattyMummy's Mini Buffet Set D at $16.14/pax, or RichFood's Petite Oriental ($17.90 before GST) and JCatering's Classic ($19.54, no GST added).
  • A 30-pax buffet at the lowest per-head price: Select Catering's Asian Favourites at $14.80+, with free delivery for events to 31 October on a $500 spend.
  • A 50-pax dinner: RichFood's Value Buffet at $12.90/pax, or FattyDaddyFattyMummy's Regular Set Up Buffet A at $14.39 with warmers and tables.
  • Halal, and offerings on one order next year: Neo Garden, once its 2027 7th-month menu opens.
  • Not sure yet? FoodLine lets you compare hundreds of caterers by price per pax, minimum pax and halal certification.

What closed, and when

  • Select Catering: menu for event dates 13 August to 10 September 2026; the page now reads "closed for orders".
  • Neo Garden: orders 13 August to 10 September; the 7th Lunar Month Menu is no longer on its order system.
  • RichFood: 11 August to 11 September.
  • FattyDaddyFattyMummy: 13 August to 11 September.
  • JCatering: no separate 7th-month menu; its mini buffets sell all year at the same prices.

What the 2026 season cost: a budget for 2027

  • Neo Garden: Lucky Sets at $81.88 (Three Treasure) and $158.88 (Five Treasure), after the $218.88 and $258.88 sets came off the order system mid-season; Huat Fruit Towers $88.88 to $238.88; buffets at $16.88/pax (min 60), $19.88 (min 30) and $22.88 (min 30); a festive bento at $11.50 (min 20 sets); dry-ration packages $15.88 to $51.88 a set.
  • Select Catering: buffets $14.50+ to $20+/pax (min 30), vegetarian $15+; prayer platters $70+, $130+ and $190+; fruit towers $88+ and $108+; a $24+ premium dry-goods package (min 10).
  • RichFood: buffets $18.90 and $21.90/pax (min 30); Mix Platters $118 and $228.
  • FattyDaddyFattyMummy: $17.09 to $20.69/pax across four menus sized for 10, 20, 30 and 50 pax, after a 15% early bird that closed on 15 August.

Which days do people actually pray?

Most households make offerings on the first day, on the 15th (Zhong Yuan Jie) and on the last day, and many also pray on the second and 16th days of the month. Zhong Yuan Jie is the peak by a distance.

You could see that peak in the 2026 pricing. Neo Garden charged a $1/pax festive surcharge on 20, 21 and 27 August across its buffets and mini buffets, which is effectively the caterers' own busiest-day list. For 2027, plan around Monday 16 August.

What families usually prepare

Offerings vary by family and dialect group, but commonly include roast meats (roast pork, duck, chicken), a whole fish, fruit (oranges and pineapples are auspicious, and are sometimes stacked into fruit towers), rice and dry goods, and tea. Many households also hold a dinner or contribute to a communal getai meal, which is where buffet catering comes in.

Watch the minimum pax, not just the price

The cheapest headline price is rarely the cheapest order. Neo Garden's 2026 Harmony buffet at $16.88/pax needed 60 pax, a ~$1,013 order, around 70% more than its dearer-looking $19.88/pax Abundance menu at its 30-pax minimum (~$596). The same rule holds year-round: RichFood's $12.90 Value Buffet needs 50 pax (~$645 before GST), while Select's $14.80+ Asian Favourites needs 30 (~$444).

FattyDaddyFattyMummy works the other way round from what you would expect. Its regular mini buffets get cheaper per head as the group grows, from $16.14 at 10 pax to $12.74 at 25, and its 50-pax set-up buffet at $14.39 includes warmers and tables. Work out your total, not your per-pax.

Before you order next year

  • Order early. Lead times run 3 to 7 working days: Neo Garden 3, RichFood 4 on its 7th-month menus, and JCatering 5 to 7 during the season.
  • Check the minimum order, not just the minimum pax. In 2026 Neo Garden delivered offering sets, praying items and savouries only on a $350 spend across at least 4 items (goodie bags excluded); self-collection dropped that to $100.
  • Watch the extras. In the 2026 season delivery was $45 at Neo Garden and FattyDaddyFattyMummy (plus $20 for Town/CBD addresses and malls at FattyDaddyFattyMummy) and $80 per buffet trip at RichFood, and most prices are subject to GST.
  • Mind the peak dates. Expect a surcharge on Zhong Yuan Jie and the days around it.
  • Skip the old Neo Garden shortlink. ngl.sg/7thMonth still returns a 404, so order at order.neogarden.com.sg.
  • Reconfirm on the day. Prices, dishes and availability move with the season, so reconfirm on the caterer's own site or by phone before you commit, and check halal certification if you need it.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the 7th Lunar Month in 2026?

In 2026 the seventh lunar month ran from Thursday 13 August to Thursday 10 September. The 15th day, Zhong Yuan Jie (中元节), the most significant day for prayers and offerings, fell on Thursday 27 August 2026. The month is now over, and the next one begins on Monday 2 August 2027.

When is the 7th month in 2027?

The 2027 seventh lunar month runs from Monday 2 August to Tuesday 31 August 2027, according to the Hong Kong Observatory's lunar calendar tables. Zhong Yuan Jie, the 15th day, is Monday 16 August 2027. It is a 30-day month, so the last day is the 30th (三十) rather than the 29th as in 2026, and the eighth month begins on Wednesday 1 September 2027. Expect the caterers' 7th-month menus in late July: in 2026 we published Neo Garden's menu on 28 July, two weeks before the month began.

When does the 7th month end in 2026, and what is the last day?

The seventh lunar month ended on Thursday, 10 September 2026, the 29th day (廿九) and the last day for prayers and offerings. By tradition this is when the gates of the underworld close. Ordering closed with it: Select Catering and Neo Garden took 7th-month orders to 10 September, and RichFood and FattyDaddyFattyMummy to 11 September. In 2027 the last day is Tuesday 31 August.

When do the gates open and close during the 7th month 2026?

By tradition the gates of the underworld open on the first day of the seventh lunar month and close on the last. In 2026 they opened on Thursday 13 August (chu yi, 初一) and closed on Thursday 10 September (the 29th day), with Zhong Yuan Jie on Thursday 27 August. In 2027 they open on Monday 2 August and close on Tuesday 31 August, with Zhong Yuan Jie on Monday 16 August. Many families make offerings on the first day, the fifteenth and the last day in particular.

What do families usually prepare or offer during the 7th month?

It varies by family and dialect group, but offerings commonly include roast meats (roast pork, duck, chicken), a whole fish, fruit (oranges and pineapples are auspicious, and are sometimes stacked into fruit towers), rice and dry goods, and tea. Many households also hold a dinner or contribute to a communal getai meal, which is where buffet catering comes in. For a ready-to-pray set, the 2026 season's most complete range was Neo Garden's, which put the roast-and-seafood platter, fruit tower and dry rations on one order.

Can I still order 7th-month offering sets or catering now?

Not from the 7th-month menus: Select Catering's page reads "closed for orders", Neo Garden has taken its 7th Lunar Month Menu off its order system, and RichFood and FattyDaddyFattyMummy stop on 11 September. For an ancestral prayer or family meal now, order a regular menu instead. The cheapest 10-pax spread is FattyDaddyFattyMummy's Mini Buffet Set D at $16.14/pax; RichFood's Petite Oriental Mini Buffet ($17.90/pax before GST) and JCatering's Classic Mini Buffet ($19.54/pax, no GST added) also start at 10. In 2026 the most complete offering range was Neo Garden's, with Lucky Sets from $81.88 and fruit towers from $88.88, so look for its 2027 menu from late July.

Is there a halal option for 7th-month catering?

In 2026, yes: Neo Garden's 7th Lunar Month range had a halal menu, prepared by Neo Garden Catering (the group's non-halal orders are handled by its sister brand, Liang Yuan), so it is the caterer to watch for a halal menu in 2027. For other caterers, halal certification varies, so confirm on each caterer's own page before you order. FoodLine also lets you filter caterers by halal certification, which is the quickest way to see only halal-certified options.

What is the minimum pax for a 7th-month buffet?

In 2026 most 7th-month set-up buffets needed 30 pax (Select Catering, RichFood, FattyDaddyFattyMummy's Set Up Buffet B and Neo Garden's Abundance and Prosperity menus), and Neo Garden's cheapest tier, Harmony at $16.88/pax, needed 60, so the lowest headline price carried the biggest commitment. Year-round, four caterers here go down to 10 pax: FattyDaddyFattyMummy's Mini Buffet Set D at $16.14/pax (about $161), RichFood's Petite Oriental at $17.90 before GST (about $195 with it), JCatering's Classic at $19.54 with no GST added (about $195) and Neo Garden's Mini Buffet C at $24.99 ($27.24 with GST). Bentos are no shortcut at festival time: Neo Garden's 2026 festive bento was $11.50 a set with a 20-set minimum.

How far ahead should I order for the 7th month?

Plan on 3 to 7 working days. In 2026 Neo Garden asked for orders to be finalised at least 3 working days before the event, RichFood 4 for its 7th-month menus (5 on its regular terms), and JCatering 5 to 7 during the season. The peak days fill first and can cost more: Neo Garden added $1/pax on 20, 21 and 27 August 2026, the last being Zhong Yuan Jie, and in 2027 that peak falls on Monday 16 August. Remember that delivery is extra and varies (Neo Garden and FattyDaddyFattyMummy charged $45 in the 2026 season, RichFood $80 per buffet trip), that Neo Garden needed a $350 spend across at least 4 items before it would deliver offering sets ($100 for self-collection), and that most prices are subject to GST.
