The Changi Shopping Carnival has been running quietly since June, and it closes at 23:59 on 31 August 2026 — nineteen days from today. The reason it's worth a second look now is that most coverage has framed it as a traveller thing. It isn't, entirely.

Two ways in — and only one of them is free

Changi Airport Group's terms split the carnival into two participant classes, and the difference matters:

  • In-transit participants — anyone arriving at or departing from Changi with a valid boarding pass. Scan the boarding pass at a game kiosk and you get one free play per event site, no purchase required. Multiple event sites, multiple free plays.
  • Public participants — anyone in the public areas of Terminals 1 to 4. No free route, but you qualify the moment you hit S$60 nett in a single receipt at a participating store, or on iShopChangi. Scan the QR code printed on the receipt at any kiosk.

That second line is the useful one. You do not need a flight to play the Changi Shopping Carnival — you need a S$60 receipt, and the public sides of T2 and T3 make that easy: McDonald's, Starbucks, Swee Choon, Paris Baguette, Peach Garden, Ramen Keisuke, Texas Chicken, 4Fingers, Sukiya and Swensen's are all on the participating list, alongside Burger King, Andes by Astons, Saboten and Penang Culture on T1's public side.

The ceiling on a single receipt is therefore three base plays plus two bonus plays — a S$180 iShopChangi order paid with a Mastercard. Note that receipts cannot be combined: three S$20 receipts are worth nothing, one S$60 receipt is worth a play.

What's in the prize pool

Every play wins something. What you win is decided by a randomised electronic draw against whatever remains in that event site's pool at that moment, so the odds shift through the campaign and CAG can reallocate stock between terminals.

  • Headline prizes — an iPhone 17 Pro Max, a 5g gold bar, and S$1,000 cash
  • The bulk of the pool — shopping vouchers, tenant vouchers and premiums
  • Changi Blind Bag Plushies — four designs, winnable through gameplay, or buy one outright for S$9.90 with a S$240 minimum spend at an event site redemption booth

Prizes are while stocks last, one per person, and claimed with the printed prize slip: tenant vouchers at the tenant's own store, premiums at the terminal's central event site, and the S$1,000 cash by email follow-up — with the winner covering any administrative and foreign-exchange fees on the disbursement.

The fine print that actually catches people

  1. The receipt QR code expires the same day. In-store point-of-sale QR codes are valid on the date of purchase only. Play before you leave the airport. Only iShopChangi QR codes last the full promotion period.
  2. One receipt, no combining. S$60 must be met in a single receipt.
  3. Spend is counted nett, after discounts and reductions.
  4. Voucher-paid amounts don't count — CapitaLand vouchers, Changi Dollar Vouchers and e-Changi Dollar Vouchers, Changi Rewards eVouchers, Jewel Gift Vouchers and Changi Gift Cards are all stripped out of the qualifying spend.
  5. Tobacco doesn't count, in any form.
  6. Service outlets don't count — banks, money changers, medical clinics, top-up machines, postal services, lounges (bank, airline, Ambassador or pay-per-use), transit hotels, hotel reservation counters, airport shuttle and transport counters, car rental, Changi Recommends, passenger meeting services, left luggage, telco counters such as M1, temporary outposts, tour and travel services, Crowne Plaza Changi Airport and YOTELAIR (including all their retail and F&B), the Apple Store in Jewel, and online purchases of Jewel attractions.
  7. A refund voids the prize. If the qualifying transaction is cancelled or refunded, the play is disqualified and the prize forfeited.

Two duty-free offers worth stacking on top

Both run to 31 August 2026 and are separate from the game:

  • The Shilla Duty Free — S$20 off a single transaction with a S$300 minimum spend. Pay with Alipay instead and it scales to S$520 off S$2,000.
  • Lotte Duty Free — a S$10 return voucher with an S$80 minimum spend. With Alipay, the tiers run S$40 off S$350, S$80 off S$500, S$150 off S$800 and S$250 off S$1,200.

How to play it well

  • Not flying? Go public-side at T2 or T3. A single S$60 food or retail receipt is the whole entry fee, and both terminals have kiosks in the public area.
  • Pay with a Mastercard. It's a free extra play on a spend you were making anyway.
  • Don't walk out with an unplayed receipt. Same-day expiry is the single most common way people lose a play.
  • Flying in the next 19 days? Scan the boarding pass at every event site you pass — the free play is per event site, not per trip.
  • Buying duty-free anyway? Sequence it so one receipt clears S$180, then take the Shilla or Lotte discount on top.
