Hoshino Coffee is the Japanese kissaten-style chain known for hand-drip coffee, omurice and tall, wobbly soufflé pancakes. Its Plaza Singapura cafe has had a refit (the poster calls it "New Look. Same Hoshino."). Its poster bills the promotion as "Two weeks, two signature soufflés", and the deal it spells out is half price on the soufflé pancake.
What 50% off works out to
These are Hoshino Coffee's own menu prices for the soufflé pancakes, and what half of each comes to.
| Soufflé pancake | Single | Single at 50% off | Double | Double at 50% off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plain (the one on the poster) | S$9.80 | about S$4.90 | S$12.50 | about S$6.25 |
| Chocolate | S$13.80 | about S$6.90 | S$16.90 | about S$8.45 |
| Mango | S$14.80 | about S$7.40 | S$17.90 | about S$8.95 |
Hoshino only says the "featured" Signature Soufflé is half price, and its poster shows the plain pancake with butter and syrup. Treat the chocolate and mango rows as a maybe and ask before you order them.
The qualifying purchase can be just a drink. Hoshino's drip coffee and a hot Americano are S$6.50, so the cheapest way in is about S$11.40 for a coffee and a single soufflé pancake, before any service charge and GST.
The fine print
- Plaza Singapura only. Hoshino's website and poster both name the reopened #03-84 outlet. Its ION Orchard, Suntec City, Chinatown Point, Raffles Holland V and other cafes are not part of it.
- You must order a main or a drink from the Grand Menu. One qualifying item per discounted pancake is the safe reading; Hoshino has not said whether one drink covers two pancakes.
- Toppings are extra. Ice cream is S$1.20, and whipped cream or whipped butter S$0.60, on Hoshino's menu.
- T&Cs apply, but Hoshino has not put them online. The poster says to scan its QR code in store for the details.
- Charges: Hoshino's menu does not say whether prices include service charge and GST, so expect them on the bill at a sit-down cafe.
- Ends Sunday 1 November. No extension has been announced.
Tips
- Go on a weekday afternoon. Soufflé pancakes are made to order and take a while, and a reopening deal at a mall as busy as Plaza Singapura draws weekend queues.
- Mind the hours. The outlet opens 11.30am on weekdays and 10.30am on weekends and public holidays, and last orders are 9.30pm daily.
- Share a double. At about S$6.25, the double is the better deal for two people splitting dessert after a main each.
- Getting there: Plaza Singapura sits above Dhoby Ghaut MRT (North South, North East and Circle lines); the cafe is on level 3.
