8 Best Biryani in Singapore (2026): Bismillah, Zam Zam, Islamic and More, Chicken Biryani From S$8

A plate of chicken biryani costs S$8 to S$22 in Singapore, and the halal question splits the list in two: half our picks are MUIS-certified, half are Muslim-owned without the certificate. We read every price off the restaurants' own menus and ordering sites on 28 September 2026.

Singapore's best biryani is mostly within a ten-minute walk of Sultan Mosque and Tekka, and it rarely costs more than S$16.

> Quick view: best overall is Bismillah Biryani (Bib Gourmand), chicken S$9; most plates run S$9-S$22; the catch is halal status, since Bismillah and Zam Zam are Muslim-owned but not MUIS-certified.

Bismillah Biryani: best overall, Bib Gourmand dum biryani from S$9

Bismillah's Dunlop Street shop holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand in the 2026 guide, and it earns it with proper dum biryani: meat and basmati sealed and steamed together so the rice takes on the spice and the fat. On its own ordering site the Chicken Dum Biryani is S$9, the Young Mutton (kid goat, the one regulars order) S$15, the Lamb Shank S$28.50 and the Vegetable Dum S$7.50. There are five outlets: 50 Dunlop Street (11.30am-8.30pm daily), 76 Shenton Way #01-03 (10.30am-7.30pm, closed Saturdays), the Jurassic Nest food hall at Gardens by the Bay (11.30am-8.45pm daily), and NUS Stephen Riady Centre and NTU North Spine (Mon-Fri 11.30am-7.30pm, Sat to 5pm). It describes itself as 100% Muslim owned and operated with no MSG, but it is not on the MUIS halal register.

Zam Zam: best heritage biryani, chicken S$9 since 1908

Zam Zam has been cooking biryani and murtabak on North Bridge Road, facing Sultan Mosque, since 1908, and its prices are the lowest of the sit-down shops here. Its own menu lists chicken, fish, beef and fried chicken biryani at S$9, mutton S$10, prawn S$12, and deer or lamb shank biryani at S$22. Two of its menu boards disagree on the special pot biryani (S$9.50 or S$10 for chicken), so check the counter. It is at 697-699 North Bridge Road and opens seven days a week; it does not publish hours, so call 6298 6320 before a late visit. Zam Zam is Muslim-owned but is not on the MUIS halal register.

Islamic Restaurant: best MUIS-certified heritage biryani, since 1921

A few doors down from Zam Zam, Islamic Restaurant has served its beryani on North Bridge Road since 1921, and unlike its neighbours it holds MUIS halal certification. It is at 735 North Bridge Road #01-01. Its group's delivery arm, Dial-A-Beryani, prices chicken and mutton beryani at S$16, fish S$18 and lamb shank S$38; delivery runs 10am-8pm with a S$60 minimum and a S$10-S$20 fee. Those are the delivery-menu prices; dine-in prices are not published and may differ. The platter photo shows why it is a family-gathering favourite: several meats on one bed of rice.

Saffrons: best 24-hour halal briyani, from S$10

Saffrons is the east side's late-night briyani stop: its Tampines (201D Tampines Street 21) and Swan Lake (23 Swan Lake Avenue, Siglap) outlets open 24 hours, and a third at Wisma Geylang Serai runs 9am-9pm. All three are MUIS halal-certified. On its ordering site the chicken and fish masala briyani are S$10 and mutton S$12; the lamb shank briyani (S$22) is a Sunday special and bee hoon briyani (S$10-S$12) is sold on Fridays from 2pm. Briyani rice is served from 12pm, so the 24-hour hours help a late dinner, not a pre-dawn biryani run.

Its homepage still shows a 2025 SG60 dine-in deal with no end date; we would not count on it.

Zaffron Kitchen: best halal biryani for a sit-down dinner, from S$19.80

How we picked and priced these

Every price comes from the restaurant's own menu, web store or ordering site, read on 28 September 2026. We checked each name against the MUIS halal register the same day, because "Muslim-owned" and "halal-certified" are not the same thing: Bismillah and Zam Zam are Muslim-owned but not certified, while Islamic Restaurant, Saffrons, Mr Biryani and Zaffron Kitchen are certified. We left out Allauddin's Briyani at Tekka Centre, a Michelin-listed stall, because it publishes no prices of its own and its official pages have not been updated in a year.

How to choose

  • Nasi briyani or dum biryani: the Kampong Glam heritage shops (Zam Zam, Islamic) serve Tamil-Muslim nasi briyani, where the meat is often cooked in a separate curry and served with the rice. Bismillah, Mr Biryani, Biryani Singapore and Cilantro make dum biryani, sealed and steamed together, which is drier and more fragrant.
  • Mutton is the benchmark: most places charge S$1-S$6 more for mutton than chicken. Zam Zam's S$10 mutton and Bismillah's S$15 young mutton are the two to compare.
  • Lamb shank is the splurge: S$22 at Zam Zam and Saffrons (Sundays only), S$28.50 at Bismillah, up to S$40.50 at Zaffron.
  • Feeding a group: Mr Biryani's party trays (S$55-S$85 for 5-7) and Bismillah's mini buffets (from S$188 for 10) beat ordering plates.
  • Late night: only Saffrons' Tampines and Swan Lake outlets are open 24 hours, and even there biryani starts at noon.
