The Land Transport Authority put out its World Car-Free Day 2026 factsheet on 2 September 2026, and the part worth clearing an afternoon for is a Singapore first: a stretch of Joo Chiat Road closes to traffic on 3 October.

Joo Chiat Car-Free Day, 3 October
A section of Joo Chiat Road between Dunman Road and East Coast Road will be closed to traffic from 3.30pm to 9.30pm so people can walk or cycle through it. LTA's own key visual calls it car-free "for the first time".
What LTA and its partners have lined up for the afternoon:
- Urban Sustainability Bike Tour, run by NEA with the Society of Tourist Guides (Singapore) as a Clean and Green Singapore 2026 activity
- Heritage Fitness Challenge from Sport Singapore, plus pickleball and rollerblading
- Heritage Dance Fitness, billed as Rhythms of Baba Nyonya
- Interactive exhibits, sustainability showcases and digital-skills workshops from Anywheel, DBS/POSB, HelloRide, HDB, IMDA's SG Digital Office, Families for Life, the National Arts Council, the National Heritage Board, NParks, SBS Transit, SimplyGo and URA
- A music performance staged by SMRT at TEL Marine Parade Station, 4pm to 5pm, for anyone arriving by train
In the evening the street hands over to the neighbourhood. Marine Parade Grassroots, with Katong Culture and the Katong-Joo Chiat Business Association, runs a community party in and around Joo Chiat Community Club: a Kueh Party, local arts, children's activity areas and live performances. The business association's Joo Chiat Street Social brings Joo Chiat shops onto the road itself for the first time, with zones for food and drink, pet activities and fitness classes.
LTA asks people to come by public transport, and says fuller road-closure information will go up on its page closer to the date. Closure questions go to the organiser at carfreeday@ppurpose.com.
The Invisible City, and the date that actually matters
The second half of the campaign is The Invisible City, a free gamified mobile experience LTA built with GovTech, hosted on the CrowdTaskSG platform. You visit locations on foot, by bicycle or by public transport, check in, and complete activities there: snapping photos, answering questions, writing a short response. Each completed objective lights up part of a virtual map of Singapore.
Here is the bit no write-up has flagged. The game period and the prize deadline are not the same date.

So the last eight weeks of the game, all of October after the 3rd and all of November, earn coins but no draw entry. If the prizes are why you are playing, the whole thing is really a four-and-a-half-week campaign.
How much of the map do you need? Less than the poster suggests. LTA's key visual shows "All 10 objectives", but the terms require only one objective in each of the five regions, a minimum of five in total, to fully illuminate the map.
What the coins are actually worth
LTA's page says you "earn up to 100 virtual coins on CrowdTaskSG for each activity completed under an objective", and that coins "can be used to redeem cash rewards at any participating merchant that supports NETS QR code payment".
That reads like real money. It is not. CrowdTaskSG's own FAQ states that 1,000 coins equates to S$1.
Which makes the arithmetic short:

To put the 100-coin rate in context, the same FAQ says a normal CrowdTaskSG task pays up to 50 coins, so this campaign does pay double the platform's usual rate. It is still ten cents. Redemption itself is straightforward and has no minimum balance any more: log in, open the Rewards page, tap Scan to pay, and scan a merchant's NETS QR code. CrowdTaskSG notes the transaction amount should match your coin balance, and anything above it has to be paid another way.
The value in this campaign sits in the draw and in a free afternoon out, not in the coins.
The prizes, and one time clash to plan around

Prizes are non-transferable, non-exchangeable and cannot be swapped for cash. Winners are emailed within 7 days of the draw closing and announced on LTA's website by 30 October 2026, must respond within 5 days with proof of identity, and must collect in person from 407 Havelock Road, #03-01, Singapore 169634 within one month.
Now the clash. If you fully illuminate the map, you can also collect a commemorative token at Joo Chiat Car-Free Day. LTA's campaign page says to bring the map "on 3 October 2026, from 3.30pm to 9.30pm". The game's terms and conditions say the token is "distributed only at the Joo Chiat Car-Free Day on 3 October 2026, 4pm to 9pm, on a first come, first served basis, while stocks last", with a limit of one per participant.
Those are two different windows on two official LTA pages. The terms are the binding document, and they also close the counter half an hour before the event ends, so plan around 4pm to 9pm and go early rather than late. Tokens run out when they run out.
Steps, and the version for children
Two smaller add-ons ride along with the campaign.
Healthy 365. LTA has partnered the Health Promotion Board on a World Car-Free Day Challenge from 14 to 30 September 2026. Healthy 365 users earn a special-edition World Car-Free Day badge by clocking at least 10,000 steps for four consecutive days inside that window. It is a badge, not a payout.
POSB Smart Buddy. Families can join through the POSB Smart Buddy Explore Singapore Steps Challenge, where children track their steps in the Smart Buddy app while working through The Invisible City together with an adult.
The fine print worth reading first
- Eligibility is stated two different ways. The game's terms open it to citizens, PRs and holders of valid employment passes, work permits or student visas, with 15 to 17 year olds needing parental consent. CrowdTaskSG's own account FAQ is narrower: citizens or PRs aged 15 and above with a Singpass account. Check you can actually open an account before you plan a weekend around it.
- Your photos are licensed to LTA. By submitting content you grant LTA a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, reproduce, publish and display it in the campaign and in LTA's public communications, including social media, with credit "where reasonably practicable".
- Fair play is enforced. GPS spoofing, bots or scripts, multiple accounts and shared logins can all mean disqualification and forfeiture of prizes.
- Play it safe. The terms put participation squarely at your own risk and ask you to stay aware of your surroundings, which is worth remembering given this is a walking-and-cycling game.
- Check the air first. The PSI has been in the unhealthy range in parts of Singapore since 4 September, and a game that rewards you for spending hours outdoors is the one campaign where that matters.
