Crab for under $40 is rare in Singapore. Zi char seafood restaurant Uncle Leong Signatures is selling a whole 600-700g crab for $38 in any of 14 flavours, and the promotion has been extended to Saturday 31 October 2026.

The 14 flavours
The poster lists Chilli Crab, Black Pepper, Salted Egg, Butter Garlic, Creamy Cheese, Signature Sauce, Kam Heong, Curry, Sambal, Sweet & Sour, Thai Style, Assam Pedas, Marmite and Ginger Onion, plus "more flavours". The restaurant's regular crab menu also has signatures such as Oreo Butter Crab, Shimmering Sand Crab and Hong Kong-style Typhoon Shelter Crab; ask at the counter which of those count as one of the 14.
The math: at $38, a 600-700g crab costs about $54-$63 a kilo. The 1kg crab at $78 is $78 a kilo, so two smaller crabs ($76 for 1.2-1.4kg) give a group more crab, and two flavours, for less.
The fine print
- Two outlets only. The poster names Joo Koon and Macpherson. Uncle Leong's Hougang branch (Blk 309 Hougang Ave 5) is not on it.
- Online prices are higher. The poster mentions delivery and self pick-up, but on 17 October the group's own ordering pages listed the 600-700g crab at $55 (Macpherson) and $58.30 (Joo Koon). Dine in for the $38, or call before ordering takeaway.
- GST is not mentioned. The poster prints S$38 with no "++" and no tax note, so ask when you order.
- Crab weight is fixed. The $38 covers a 600-700g crab; anything heavier is the $78 1kg crab or regular pricing.
Tips
- Order two flavours, not one big crab. Chilli and salted egg side by side costs $76, less than a single 1kg crab.
- Book a table for weekends. Reservations are on the restaurant's website, and a $38 crab draws a crowd at dinner.
- Joo Koon is easy from the MRT. FairPrice Hub sits beside Joo Koon station, and the outlet closes at 9.30pm, earlier than Macpherson's 11pm.
- Bring something to mop up the gravy. Wet sauces like chilli, curry and assam pedas go furthest with fried mantou or rice.
