Almost every SG61 campaign this month uses the same trick — price something at $6.10, or cut it by 61%, and let the number do the marketing. Most of the time the number lands on a drink or a side. Soup Restaurant's version puts it on the food, and specifically on the kind of old-school Singaporean cooking that has largely disappeared from chain menus.

The six dishes

From Soup Restaurant's own promotions page, the National Day Special covers these, and you pick one to take at 61% off:

  • Assam Uncle Lapan Fish
  • Laksa Prawns
  • Stir-Fried Pig's Blood Tofu with Mustard Green
  • Kopi O Pork Chop
  • Double-boiled Crocodile Soup with Wolf Berries
  • Homemade Pandan Panna Cotta with Gula Melaka

That is a genuinely unusual list. Pig's blood tofu and double-boiled crocodile soup are dishes most Singaporeans associate with a specific generation of Cantonese cooking rather than with a mall restaurant, and Kopi O pork chop is the sort of thing that only appears when a kitchen is deliberately playing with local flavours. If you have been meaning to try the crocodile soup and never wanted to pay full price to find out whether you like it, this is the window.

Read this bit carefully

The discount is on any one of those six dishes — not on your table's whole order. Practically, that reframes the deal: it is a reason to add a dish, not a way to take money off the meal you were already ordering. Order your usual Samsui ginger chicken and rice, then put one National Day dish on top at 61% off.

The second catch is the calendar. Weekdays only means National Day itself — Sunday 9 August 2026 — and the public holiday in lieu on Monday 10 August are both excluded. The long weekend is exactly when most families plan a meal out, and it is exactly when this promotion does not apply.

Two OCBC offers running underneath it

If you hold an OCBC card, these are worth planning the visit around, and they are on for far longer than the National Day dish:

  1. 1-for-1 selected vegetable dishes with a minimum spend of $50 — 1 July to 30 September 2026, dine-in only, excluding public holidays and their eves. The free item must be of equal or lower value, one redemption per table per bill, no splitting bills.
  2. $7.90 double-boiled soup against a usual price of up to $16.90 — till 31 December 2026, dine-in only, up to three redemptions per table per bill.

Both require payment on an OCBC card and neither combines with other promotions or vouchers unless stated.

The discount most people forget: Early Bird

No card, no code, no campaign — Soup Restaurant simply charges less outside peak hours, all year round:

It is not available at Paragon or Jewel Changi, does not apply on Chinese New Year, Mother's Day or Father's Day, and excludes beverages, condiments and towels.

The best way to stack it

A weekday late lunch, 2.30pm–4.59pm, at Teahouse IMM or Century Square: 35% off the rest of the order, plus one National Day dish at 61% off. If you are paying with an OCBC card and the bill clears $50, the 1-for-1 vegetable dish goes on top of that. Just note that a few outlets — Holland Village, Hougang Mall and United Square — close between 2.30pm and 5pm on weekdays, so the late-lunch window does not exist there.
