Old Chang Kee's Salted Egg Taro Mochi'O Is $3.80, or 2 for $6.80, at All Outlets 1 to 30 Sep 2026

Old Chang Kee has put its Mid-Autumn puff back on the counter, and this year there is mochi inside it. The Salted Egg Taro Mochi'O (咸蛋芋泥麻薯角) went on sale at all outlets on Tuesday 1 September 2026 and runs to 30 September, at $3.80 a piece or $6.80 for two.

What it actually is

The puff is the round, crimped-edge shape Old Chang Kee uses for its festive items, with a red 福 stamped on the pastry and a moon and rabbits on the campaign artwork. Cut it open and there are three layers: purple taro paste, a whole salted egg yolk, and a stretch of mochi running through the middle. The artwork flags it as NEW with Mochi, which is the actual change from last year rather than marketing dressing, and the Chinese name says the same thing: last year's was 咸蛋芋泥角, this year's is 咸蛋芋泥麻薯角.

The price, read against Old Chang Kee's own back catalogue

A single puff at $3.80 sounds like a small number until you line it up against what the same brand charged for the same idea eleven months ago.

Two things fall out of that.

The single is $0.20 dearer than last year's Mid-Autumn puff, which is a 5.6% rise on an item that shares its Chinese name, its shape and its 福 stamp with the 2025 version. The mochi is the thing you are paying the extra for.

The 2-for rate is cheaper than last year. At $6.80 for two you are paying $3.40 a piece, which is $0.20 *below* the Yam'O's single price. There was no 2-for on the Yam'O artwork. So if you buy in pairs, this year's puff is the better deal despite the higher shelf price.

The Red Bean Mochi'O comparison is the less flattering one. That ran from 6 May to 6 June this year at $2.60, so the same brand's other mochi puff was $1.20 cheaper four months ago. The salted egg yolk is the difference, and salted egg has been the premium filling across Old Chang Kee's range for a while.

The 2-for is the only discount, and it is the whole play

There is no app, no code, no membership and no minimum spend. You walk up to the counter and buy it. The only saving on offer is the bundle:

• 1 piece: $3.80
• 2 pieces: $6.80, versus $7.60 for two singles
• You save: $0.80, or 10.5%

There is no scenario in which one piece is better value than two. If you are buying at all, buy the pair.

Time it around the festival, not around the end date

Mid-Autumn Festival 2026 falls on Friday 25 September. The promotion ends Tuesday 30 September, which leaves a five-day tail after the festival itself. Last year's Yam'O ran 8 September to 12 October, a 35-day window; this year's is 30 days and starts nearly a week earlier.

The end date is not the constraint to plan around, though. Old Chang Kee's own line ends with or while stocks last, and that phrase sits above the date in the hierarchy. Treat 30 September as a ceiling rather than a promise, particularly in the week around the festival itself.

What else is on at Old Chang Kee right now

The Mochi'O is the new arrival, but the brand's promotions page lists several other items as currently available, with prices printed on their own artwork:

One caution on that list: the Shiok! Salted Egg artwork still carries a *Buy & Win* staycation contest whose entry window closed on 13 July 2025. The $4 boxes are still listed, but the contest printed on the poster is long over, so do not go in expecting to enter it.

Fine print worth knowing

1. 1 to 30 September 2026, at all Old Chang Kee outlets, per the brand's own promotions page.
2. While stocks last. The date is a ceiling, not a guarantee.
3. $3.80 for one, $6.80 for two. The bundle is the only discount and needs no code.
4. Delivery is not named for this item. Old Chang Kee's page explicitly says *and on delivery platforms* for several other current items, but not for this one. Search the app rather than assuming.
5. Old Chang Kee has traded since 1956 and its 2026 campaign artwork carries a 70th-anniversary mark, which is worth knowing only because seasonal items in an anniversary year tend to move faster than usual.
6. Old Chang Kee displays halal certification on its own website and on its campaign artwork, including this one.
