McDonald's 'Crown Your Favourite McSpicy' Vote Installation Is Live at Bishan MRT — Singapore's National Treasure Decided by You (May 2026)

Walked through Bishan MRT this week and McDonald's has set up a giant red press-to-vote display asking commuters to crown their favourite McSpicy variant — Double McSpicy, McSpicy, McSpicy with Cheese, or Double McSpicy with Cheese. Live vote counts. Free to vote. Part of the wider McSpicy Singapore-National-Treasure campaign in May 2026.

Walked through Bishan MRT this week and McDonald's Singapore has set up one of the more entertaining MRT brand activations of 2026 — a giant red wall-mounted installation asking commuters to press to vote for their favourite McSpicy variant as "Singapore's National Treasure". It's hard to miss: about 6-7 meters of bright red wall opposite the Bishan MRT McDonald's outlet, four giant McSpicy photos, four physical press-buttons, and live LED vote counters above each one.

The contestants:

  • Double McSpicy — 668 votes when we passed by
  • McSpicy (the original) — 1,168 votes
  • McSpicy with Cheese — 1,275 votes (currently leading)
  • Double McSpicy with Cheese — 1,272 votes

Read of the data: Singaporeans value cheese more than they value an extra patty. The cheese variants are running away with it, while the cheese-less Double McSpicy is in dead last. The original McSpicy sits comfortably mid-pack as the baseline classic.

This installation is part of the wider McSpicy "Singapore's National Treasure" campaign McDonald's is running across May 2026, marking 26 years of the McSpicy on the Singapore menu (debuted in 2000). The campaign also includes the McSpicy Museum pop-up at Bugis Junction (13–25 May, with free McSpicy giveaways from 19-23 May), a new Smoky Chilli Mayo McSpicy variant launching mid-May, and a foodpanda McDelivery 1-for-1 promo running 7-27 May.

No purchase required to vote — just walk up, press a button. Free fun if you're transiting through Bishan. Worth keeping an eye out at other interchange stations too: past McDonald's MRT activations have spanned 4-6 stations simultaneously, so Dhoby Ghaut / Raffles / Orchard / Jurong East probably have their own installations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where exactly is the McSpicy vote installation in Bishan MRT?

The installation is in the underground concourse area of Bishan MRT (NS17/CC15), on the wall opposite the McDonald's outlet itself. It takes up about 6-7 meters of wall space and is impossible to miss — bright red background with the four giant McSpicy burger photos and LED vote counters. From Bishan MRT North-South Line platform, take the escalator up and you'll see it immediately to your right. Free to vote, no McDonald's purchase or app needed.

Which McSpicy is currently leading?

As of our visit, McSpicy with Cheese is leading with 1,275 votes — narrowly ahead of Double McSpicy with Cheese (1,272), then McSpicy (1,168), and Double McSpicy bringing up the rear at 668 votes. Reading the tea leaves: Singaporeans appear to value cheese more than they value an extra patty. The original McSpicy (without cheese) is in the middle, which makes sense as it's the iconic baseline. The 'pure' Double McSpicy (without cheese) is unexpectedly last — possibly because most fans who want bulk just go straight for the cheese variant.

Why is McDonald's running this 'National Treasure' campaign?

2026 marks 26 years since McSpicy launched in Singapore (debuted 1999 / 2000). McDonald's Singapore is leaning into the genuinely-loved-by-locals positioning that the McSpicy has — the only major McDonald's burger that originated as a Singapore-exclusive (now sold in Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines as well, but it's a recognised SG marketing claim). The wider campaign includes: (1) the MRT vote installations like the one at Bishan, (2) the McSpicy Museum at Bugis Junction running 13-25 May 2026 with games + free McSpicy giveaways, (3) a new Smoky Chilli Mayo McSpicy variant launching mid-May, (4) the foodpanda McDelivery 1-for-1 promo (7-27 May).

Are there other MRT stations with the McSpicy vote installation?

We confirmed Bishan MRT in person. McDonald's typically runs these MRT activations at multiple high-traffic interchange stations simultaneously — past campaigns (McCrispy Dhoby Ghaut staircase, Grimace AR campaign) have spanned 4-6 stations. Likely candidates this round: Dhoby Ghaut, City Hall, Raffles Place, Orchard, Jurong East, Bishan (confirmed), Tampines. Worth checking when you transit through those. The installation is light-up + has the LED vote counters, so it stands out — won't be missed if it's at your interchange.
