Walked through Bishan MRT this week and McDonald's Singapore has set up one of the more entertaining MRT brand activations of 2026 — a giant red wall-mounted installation asking commuters to press to vote for their favourite McSpicy variant as "Singapore's National Treasure". It's hard to miss: about 6-7 meters of bright red wall opposite the Bishan MRT McDonald's outlet, four giant McSpicy photos, four physical press-buttons, and live LED vote counters above each one.

The contestants:

  • Double McSpicy — 668 votes when we passed by
  • McSpicy (the original) — 1,168 votes
  • McSpicy with Cheese — 1,275 votes (currently leading)
  • Double McSpicy with Cheese — 1,272 votes

Read of the data: Singaporeans value cheese more than they value an extra patty. The cheese variants are running away with it, while the cheese-less Double McSpicy is in dead last. The original McSpicy sits comfortably mid-pack as the baseline classic.

This installation is part of the wider McSpicy "Singapore's National Treasure" campaign McDonald's is running across May 2026, marking 26 years of the McSpicy on the Singapore menu (debuted in 2000). The campaign also includes the McSpicy Museum pop-up at Bugis Junction (13–25 May, with free McSpicy giveaways from 19-23 May), a new Smoky Chilli Mayo McSpicy variant launching mid-May, and a foodpanda McDelivery 1-for-1 promo running 7-27 May.

No purchase required to vote — just walk up, press a button. Free fun if you're transiting through Bishan. Worth keeping an eye out at other interchange stations too: past McDonald's MRT activations have spanned 4-6 stations simultaneously, so Dhoby Ghaut / Raffles / Orchard / Jurong East probably have their own installations.
