Matchaya is running a 10.10 sale on its own tea range: the Matcha 18 powder drops to $9.90 for a 30g tin (usually $19), and everything else is 30% off. Its Instagram post says the deal runs to Sunday 11 October at its outlets and online, and the online store's own banner keeps it going to Tuesday 13 October.
> Quick view: Matchaya 10.10 · Matcha 18 30g tin $9.90 (U.P. $19) · 30% off storewide · in store and online to Sun 11 Oct, 11.59pm (Instagram) · online banner says 7 to 13 Oct · discount auto-applied at checkout · free delivery only above $100 after discount, otherwise $5 · Tiong Bahru and Suntec City.
The offer
Matchaya's Instagram post on 6 October reads "$9.9 Matcha 18 + 30% OFF Storewide. Now till 11 Oct 2359", available "via retail outlets or matchaya.sg". On the website, the homepage banner and the 10.10 collection page both say the sale runs 7 to 13 October at 11.59pm, and that the discount applies automatically at checkout.

What 30% off works out to
The online store still shows full prices, because the 30% comes off at checkout. Here is what the listed prices become (our maths, rounded to the cent):
| Item | Listed | At 30% off |
|---|---|---|
| Matcha 18 Powder, 30g tin | $19 | $9.90 (special price) |
| Matcha 18 Powder, 250g pack | $80 | $56 |
| Ceremonial Matcha 8, 30g tin | $27 | $18.90 |
| Ceremonial Matcha 8, 250g pack | $110 | $77 |
| Okumidori ceremonial matcha, 30g tin | $60 | $42 |
| Houjicha or Genmaicha powder, 30g | $19 | $13.30 |
| Any single tea box (Black Yuzu, Sakura Spring and others) | $16 | $11.20 |
| Variety Tea Box | $36 | $25.20 |
| Uji Matcha, Houjicha or Kurogoma soft serve tub | $14.90 | $10.43 |
| Matcha whisk (chasen) | $39.90 | $27.93 |
| Black ceramic chawan | $59.90 | $41.93 |
One quirk: if the 30% does apply to the 250g pack of Matcha 18, it costs about 22 cents a gram against 33 cents a gram for the $9.90 tin. For heavy home drinkers, the big pack is the better buy, as long as you can finish it while it is fresh.
The fine print
- Two end dates. Instagram says 11 October for outlets and online; the website says 13 October online. Go to an outlet by Sunday to be safe.
- Delivery is not always free. The banner's "free islandwide delivery" has an asterisk. Matchaya's shipping policy says it is free above $100 after discount and $5 otherwise.
- Some items are gone. On 9 October the Matcha Milk Blend, Houjicha Milk Blend, Royal Milk Tea Blend and Glass Chawan were all sold out online.
- Drinks are unclear. "Storewide" clearly covers the retail shelf. Matchaya does not say whether it also covers drinks and desserts at the tea bar, so ask before you order.
- No stacking promised. The $9.90 tin is its own special price. Matchaya does not say the 30% comes off it as well, so do not count on that.
Tips
- Pick up instead of paying $5 delivery. Two tins online cost $19.80 plus $5. At Tiong Bahru or Suntec you pay $19.80.
- Clear $100 with a starter kit. A whisk ($27.93), a black chawan ($41.93), a Ceremonial Matcha 8 tin ($18.90) and two Matcha 18 tins ($19.80) come to about $108.56, which crosses the free-delivery line.
- Buy grades for the job. Matcha 18 is for lattes and baking. If you whisk usucha to drink straight, Ceremonial Matcha 8 or Okumidori at 30% off is better value.
- Store it cold. Keep opened tins sealed in the fridge and use them within a few weeks.
