Is your cake shop halal? Brand-by-brand status, checked against the MUIS register
This is the single most-asked question we get on birthday cakes, so we did more than repeat what the brands say. On 20 September 2026 we searched every shop on the official MUIS halal register at halal.muis.gov.sg, which is the only record that actually proves certification, and one of the six had moved since our August check. A "no pork, no lard" line on a website is a self-declaration, not an audited certification, and a framed certificate in a shop tells you nothing about currency because it carries no expiry date on its face.
- Is PrimaDeli halal? Yes, and the register backs it. PrimaDeli appears on the MUIS register at 21 certified premises, from Bedok Mall and Causeway Point to Waterway Point and Bukit Panjang Plaza. That is one fewer than the 22 locations its own outlets page still advertises, and three fewer than the register carried a fortnight ago, so check that your nearest branch is on the list rather than assuming the whole chain. At $33 for a celebration cake it is also the cheapest halal birthday cake you can walk in and collect today.
- Is Cat & the Fiddle halal? Yes, and the register backs it. All seven of its Singapore shops are listed as certified: Westgate, Tampines 1, Junction 8, City Square Mall, Northpoint City, Woods Square and Punggol. It has been MUIS-certified since 2019 and is the pick for a premium halal cake or a halal Musang King durian cheesecake.
- Is Sweetest Moments halal? The brand says yes. Its FAQ states that all Sweetest Moments products are halal-certified, and that products carry the certification logo where possible. We could not find the company on the MUIS establishments register under its name, its Tai Seng address or its postal code. That is not proof either way, since the establishments register covers premises rather than packaged products, but it does mean you should look for the logo on the box or ask for the certificate before ordering.
- Is Emicakes halal? No, not halal-certified. Emicakes says so directly on its own FAQ, while stating it uses no pork, lard or alcohol in its products or manufacturing. Treat that as a brand self-declaration. It does not appear on the MUIS register.
- Is Awfully Chocolate halal? No, not MUIS halal-certified. It uses no pork or lard, but alcohol is used in parts of the cake range, which is why certification isn't possible. It does not appear on the MUIS register.
- Is Cedele halal? No, not halal-certified. Cedele's own FAQ says it plainly: "Cedele is not Halal-certified." Some third-party directories claim certain outlets handle halal items separately. Cedele itself makes no such claim, so don't rely on it.
If halal is non-negotiable, PrimaDeli and Cat & the Fiddle are the two you can verify yourself in about thirty seconds on the MUIS register, and Sweetest Moments is worth asking directly.
How to choose your birthday cake shop
- By flavour: chocolate goes to Awfully Chocolate; durian to Emicakes or Cat & the Fiddle (cheesecake); cheesecake to Cat & the Fiddle; carrot, banana or wholesome to Cedele.
- By halal need: PrimaDeli and Cat & the Fiddle are confirmed on the MUIS register. Awfully Chocolate, Emicakes and Cedele are not certified.
- By budget: PrimaDeli is the most wallet-friendly and everywhere; Emicakes offers value custom designs; Cat & the Fiddle and Cedele sit at the premium end.
- By speed: need it today? Cat & the Fiddle is the fastest, with same-day slots closing 2.5 hours before the window. Cedele delivers or lets you collect same-day by 4pm from an 11-cake list, and PrimaDeli is the walk-in option. Awfully Chocolate and Emicakes are next-day (order by 4pm), and Sweetest Moments needs 3 to 14 days.
- By occasion: baby full-month, 100-day or a kids' party with cupcakes goes to Sweetest Moments, booked at least a week ahead.

So the honest answer to "how much is a birthday cake in Singapore" is around $27 to $100 for a standard whole cake, with $45 to $80 the realistic middle for something you'd be happy to put candles on. Two things push you past that: durian, which carries a real premium (Mao Shan Wang cakes start near $97 at Emicakes), and customisation, where Awfully Chocolate's customised Original starts at $142, roughly three times its off-the-shelf price.
What moved on the 4 October pass: PrimaDeli's September Peach & Longan Delight offer has ended, replaced by a 34th-anniversary deal that takes 34% off its large Blackforest Classic, Truffle and Fruit Paradise cakes, $33.50 instead of $50.80 until 31 October. Its regular-size classics stay at $26.80, still the floor in this guide. Cedele's cheapest whole cake remains a $38 seven-inch ogura, in pandan or coconut gula melaka. Emicakes' SG61 Chendol cakes are still retired, so the $44 to $61 chendol prices other guides carry no longer buy anything; its floor stays $42.90, and two eggless naked cakes match it.
Don't forget delivery, which is charged on top almost everywhere: $10.90 next-day at Cat & the Fiddle, $16 at Awfully Chocolate, $18 at both Cedele and PrimaDeli, and $20.90 if you need Cat & the Fiddle same-day. Free-delivery thresholds are $100 (Cat & the Fiddle), $120 (Cedele), $150 (Awfully Chocolate, Emicakes) and just $30 at Sweetest Moments. PrimaDeli has no free-delivery tier online, so if you are buying one cheap cake there, collecting it is the sensible move.

A few traps worth knowing. Cedele's same-day service is not the whole menu: it runs off a separate 11-cake collection that starts at $52, those cakes cannot carry a personalised message or a specific delivery time, orders placed after 4pm are cancelled and refunded, and you must not mix a same-day listing with a regular one in the same checkout. Everything outside that list needs two days' notice by 4pm, and some items three. PrimaDeli's website orders need four working days, so the outlet counter really is the only same-day route there. And Sweetest Moments, despite the low $30 free-delivery threshold, states on its own store that the earliest possible delivery is three days away, so it will not save a birthday you remembered this morning.

- Watch the cut-off. Same-day and next-day slots close early in the day, so order in the morning to be safe.
- Hit the free-delivery threshold. Awfully Chocolate and Emicakes deliver free above $150, Sweetest Moments above $30.
- Order custom early. Figurine, tiered and edible-print cakes need more lead time than standard signature cakes.
- Confirm halal per product. Look for a displayed MUIS certificate and check the specific item, as ranges can differ.
