If a new Mac or iPad was on your shopping list, you'll want to know this: Apple has raised its Singapore prices across the Mac and iPad lines, effective immediately in late June 2026. Some models are up by as much as S$600. The cause is a worldwide memory-chip crunch fuelled by the AI boom — and Apple says it can no longer absorb it.

> The silver lining: iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods are unchanged (for now). The hit is on Macs, iPads and a few accessories.

Why prices went up

The increases are down to a global shortage of memory and storage chips. AI companies are buying up vast quantities of DRAM and NAND flash to build data centres, pushing component prices sharply higher — reports point to DRAM up ~50% and NAND up over 90% quarter-on-quarter in early 2026. Apple had been absorbing the higher costs, but CEO Tim Cook called the increases "unavoidable."

What's NOT affected

For now, the iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods are spared and cost the same. That said, some analysts warn an iPhone price rise could follow later in the year if memory prices keep climbing — so this may not be the end of it.

Buying smart

  • Need a Mac or iPad soon? If you were already going to buy, sooner rather than later avoids any further hikes — but don't panic-buy something you don't need.
  • Check education pricing. Students and educators get a discount on Macs and iPads via Apple's Education Store, which softens the new prices.
  • Consider the previous generation or certified refurbished. Apple's refurbished store and authorised resellers often have older-but-capable models at lower prices.
  • Watch trade-in and bank/card promos. Trade-ins and instalment or card deals can offset some of the increase.
  • iPhone unchanged. If you're upgrading a phone rather than a computer, there's no price pressure to rush.
