Singapore's next National Day Parade has a venue. Speaking at the NDP 2026 Appreciation Function on Tuesday 25 August 2026, Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing confirmed that NDP 2027 will be held at the Padang — to mark NS60, Singapore's 60th year of National Service.

The quiet catch: the Padang holds far fewer people than this year's National Stadium, so the free ticket ballot gets materially harder. Ballot dates, theme and song line-up are not yet announced.
What was actually announced
In his own words, from MINDEF's published speech transcript:

That is the entirety of it. The announcement came at a reception at D'Marquee thanking the organisations, sponsors and volunteers behind NDP 2026 — not at a ticketing or programme launch — so no dates, theme, song line-up or ticket details came with it. MINDEF's news release confirms the same line: NDP 2027 will be held at the Padang to commemorate 60 years of National Service.
One detail for anyone who follows the parade closely: Chan named HQ Engineers as the formation spearheading the organisation of NDP 2027.
He also set the organising team a challenge rather than a template:

The part nobody is reporting: the ballot just got tighter
This is the practical consequence, and it comes straight out of MINDEF's own numbers rather than anyone's estimate.
In the same speech, Chan said there were 42,000 spectators in the National Stadium for NDP 2026, and described this year's staging as having "50% more spectators" than the Padang. Work that backwards and the Padang sits at roughly 28,000 — consistent with the 27,000 widely reported for the SG60 parade there in 2025.

So about 14,000 to 15,000 fewer seats go into the 2027 public ballot — roughly a third fewer — for a parade that, being NS60, is likely to draw more interest, not less. If getting in matters to you, treat the 2027 ballot as the hardest in three years and plan accordingly.
Two things follow from that:
- Apply for the Preview Shows too. In recent years the ballot has covered the Preview Shows on the preceding Saturdays as well as parade day. They run the full show — fireworks included — at a fraction of the demand, and they are the smarter application if you mainly want to see the parade rather than be there on 9 August specifically.
- The roof is gone. The National Stadium's covered bowl meant no washout in 2026. The Padang is open-air, so wet-weather plans, ponchos and the NDP Pack matter again.
Mark the long weekend now
National Day 2027 falls on Monday 9 August 2027, Singapore's 62nd birthday. Because it lands on a Monday, that is a natural three-day weekend from Saturday 7 to Monday 9 August — no public holiday in lieu needed. JB, Bintan, Batam and local staycations historically fill early for National Day weekends, and this one is a genuine long weekend rather than a Sunday holiday, so pressure on those dates will be higher than it was in 2026.
Why the Padang, historically
The Padang is where the parade started: it hosted Singapore's first NDP in 1966, and has taken the milestone years since — SG50 in 2015 and the bicentennial in 2019. It ran three consecutive years from 2023 to 2025, the last two marking the 40th anniversary of Total Defence and Singapore's 60th year of independence. NDP 2026 broke that run by returning to the National Stadium for the first time in a decade.
NS60 puts 2027 firmly in that milestone category — which is the logic behind the move back.
What is NOT announced yet — do not guess
Plenty of detail is still missing, and it is worth being clear about what has not been said:
- Ballot opening and closing dates. Based on how recent years have run, expect applications around late May 2027, closing roughly two weeks later, results by SMS and email in mid-June, and collection in early July. That is a pattern, not an announcement.
- Whether there will be Preview Shows, and how many.
- Theme, song line-up and NDP Pack contents.
- Where the fireworks will be fired from, and therefore which free viewing spots work. At the 2026 stadium parade they went up over the Kallang Basin; at past Padang editions the civic district and Marina Bay side were the vantage points. This has not been confirmed for 2027, so do not lock in a viewing spot yet.
- Ticket categories and numbers.
Tickets are free — and that is the scam warning
Worth repeating every year: NDP tickets cost nothing. There is no ticket price, only a free public ballot at ndp.gov.sg, and there is no second round, no waitlist and no legitimate resale market. Tickets are allocated with a specific seat and are non-transferable. Anyone selling you an NDP 2027 ticket is running a scam, and most of those start with reposts on social media rather than on the official site. From May 2027, watch ndp.gov.sg directly.
What we could not verify
MINDEF has not published NDP 2027 capacity, ballot dates or programme details, and ndp.gov.sg still carries NDP 2026 content at the time of writing. The roughly 28,000 Padang figure above is derived from Chan's own "50% more spectators" comparison against the stated 42,000 stadium crowd — it is arithmetic from official statements, not an official capacity figure.
